Billy Joel and Sting will take the 7 train out to hit the Mets’ Citi Field for a one-night-only co-headlining gig.This concert marks the third Tri-state area stadium show for the 75-year-old Joel this summer.Prior to his night in Queens, the “Piano Man” is scheduled to swing into Yankee Stadium with Rod Stewart on Friday, July 18.
Then, three weeks after that, he and Stevie Nicks will deliver the hits at MetLife Stadium on Friday, Aug. 8.As for the Aug.
21 Citi Field show, it will serve as the debut at the Mets’ new home for both Joel and Sting. Neither has played the Flushing venue since its 2009 opening.However, it won’t be the first time pair have performed at a Mets ballpark.
Back in 2008, Joel rocked Shea Stadium for two nights before its closure; as for Sting, he took the stage with The Police at Shea back in 1983.“Throughout Mets history, there’s always been a special connection with Billy Joel and the Mets,” Mets Vice President of Events Nikki Romolo said in a statement. “From closing Shea Stadium with the two final concerts in 2008, performing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ before the 2015 World Series, to ‘Piano Man’ echoing throughout Citi Field regularly during games.
