With his latest role, Bill Skarsgård had the task of delivering a terrified and tortured performance with no scene partner.
The Locked star recently opened up about the “quite torturous journey” of playing a carjacker locked alone in a vehicle and subjected to the deadly whims of a mysterious sociopath (Anthony Hopkins) intent on teaching him the consequences of his crimes. “This was a very solitary experience for me in terms of performing it because it’s just me and a camera for most of the movie, stuck in this f—ing car,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “So I really missed my castmates because so much of what I love about acting is dancing with a scene partner.
And there’s a little bit of dancing towards the end of this with Sir Anthony Hopkins which was just for sure an incredibly cool experience.” Skarsgård continued, “But it was awkward being alone for so long.
You’re like, ‘Okay, where do I look? The camera’s here, and I’m not looking at a person.’ All of Anthony’s dialogue is spoken through the car.
