Betty Wright has sadly died. The soul and R&B singer passed away at the age of 66, her niece confirmed, via TMZ on Sunday (May 10). Betty was not only a prolific artist in her own right, but supplied her voice as a background vocalist and her talent as a producer over the years.

She released her debut album, My First Time Around, in 1968, including her hit “Girls Can’t Do What the Guys Do.” She was known for songs including “Clean Up Woman” and “What Are You Going to Do With It,” produced by Stevie Wonder.

She was also a vocal coach to Danity Kane on Making The Band. She also popularized the term “No pain, no gain.” More recently, she collaborated with DJ Khaled, Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar on “Holy Key.” Our thoughts are with Betty Wright
