Benedict Cumberbatch was seriously thinking about ditching his given name for his acting career. During an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden, the 45-year-old actor revealed that he almost changed it to something shorter, and something much easier to say. Click inside to read more… Benedict told James that he felt his surname “sounds like a fart in a bath and I find it difficult to say on a Monday morning.” He added that while Cumberbatch is “a great sort of Scrabble score”, it’s also a “bit clumsy” to say.
The name he almost went by was going to be Ben Carlton, which is still part of his name. His real full name is Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch.
But his “sensible agents” advised him that Cumberbatch is much more memorable. “And I started work almost immediately after that,” he added. Benedict‘s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness co-star Elizabeth Olsen almost went by another name too for her on-screen career.
