Parts of Beijing have gone back into lockdown over fresh fears of a second wave of coronavirus infections. A total of seven new cases have been confirmed in the city, according to the National Health Commission.

They are the first locally transmitted cases in the Chinese capital in more than 50 days. Six of the seven cases have reportedly been linked to the Xinfadi meat market.

The Fengtai district is now under lockdown with residents banned from leaving their homes on 11 estates. The market has 4,000 tenants and will be disinfected after workers there tested positive and the virus was found in the environment, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
