Rebecca Rubin Senior Film and Media Reporter Warner Bros. and Tim Burton’s sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” and Paramount’s animated “Transformers One” topped international box office charts over Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot.” Among Hollywood titles, “Transformers One” led the way with $16.6 million from 61 international territories, representing a 44% decline from the prior weekend. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which opened earlier in September, added a strong $13.6 million from 77 markets over the weekend.
Meanwhile, “The Wild Robot,” which is staggering its foreign rollout and is comparatively playing on far fewer screens, brought in $9.86 million from 29 markets. “The Wild Robot” lifted off internationally last weekend with $6.85 million and has grossed $18.1 million overseas to date.
The animated sci-fi story, directed by Chris Sanders,” was No. 1 in North America with $35 million, bringing its worldwide tally to $53 million.
It opened this weekend in Mexico ($3.7 million) and held strong in Australia ($1.5 million over the weekend, $4.5 million to date).
