For months now, critics on Twitter and elsewhere have challenged The Idol’s more explicit scenes, describing some of them as examples of toxic masculinity, rape culture and torture porn and questioning their value. Now, the show’s star, Lily-Rose Depp, has responded to those sentiments in an interview with Vogue Australia.

In Season 3, Cary, an actor, finally works his way up to C-list celebrity status, while Brooke, after talent managing her famous family members, decides to leave the industry to “do good.”

Last month, ESPN’s “30 for 30” explored the show, and now, Netflix is getting into the game. Netflix’s five-part docuseries, “Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of ‘American Gladiators,” dives into the hit, chronicling the meteoric rise and sweeping impact the superhero-like athletes had on both fans across America and their “average Joe” competitors. Co-directors Jared Hess and Tony Vainuku were fans of “American Gladiators” as teens, so it was natural to revisit the TV show when Netflix presented the opportunity. In their series, the filmmakers explore the good, the bad and the ugly, bringing audiences insight through access to executives who greenlit the production in the ’80s, original crew members and gladiators, including Nitro (Dan Clark), Storm (Debbie Clark), Diamond (Erika Andersch Bunker), Laser (Jim Kalafat), Ice (Lori Fetrick), Zap (Raye Olson), Blaze (Shari E Pendleton Mitchell), Sky (Shirley Eson-Korito) and Tower (Steve Hennebery).

Mackie figured the only prominent Black superhero Marvel might develop a movie for is Black Panther, so he put all his cards on playing T’Challa. “I had been contacting Marvel a lot about Black Panther,” Mackie said. “I had written them letters. I was trying to find a way to make them make Black Panther. And I wanted to be Black Panther because growing up I fucking loved Black Panther.” Mackie landed a meeting with longtime Marvel producer Nate Moore and directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who were developing “Captain America: The Winter Solider” at the time. No one told Mackie what part they were meeting him for at the time, so he just presumed it was for Black Panther.

Anna Marie de la Fuente Chile’s Clara Films and Barcelona-based VFX studio Unbound Hub have forged a strategic development pact for the upcoming dystopian TV series, “Numana.” Created by Argentine writers Jesica Arán (“Pájaros Negros”) and Soledad Velasco (Disney+’s “Dreaming High”), the project participated at  Conecta Fiction’s High End Pitch session. “We are thrilled to partner with Unbound Hub in the development of ‘Numana,’” said producer Clara Larrain of Clara Films.  “Nowadays, investors fear unpredictable budgets that a series like this can mean, so having Unbound Hub on board this early will be instrumental not only in bringing our dystopian vision to life, but in reducing risk.”

Kate Aurthur editor A “Vanderpump Rules” spinoff revolving around Jax Taylor, Brittany Cartwright and Kristen Doute — all of whom were fired from the flagship show in 2020 — is in the works at Bravo, Variety has confirmed. The show would follow the lives of them and their circle of friends in the Valley, and is in early stages of development. None of the main cast has signed yet, but the new series is from a pitch by “Vanderpump Rules” executive producer Alex Baskin. With Season 11 on the #Scandoval-fueled “Vanderpump Rules” beginning production today, this new series appears to answer the question in the negative about whether Taylor and Doute, who are original cast members from the show, will be returning. Instead, the three of them, along with new cast members, will be getting their own show. Stassi Schroeder, who also was ousted from “Vanderpump Rules” in 2020, will not be a part of the spinoff.

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Vice News has released the trailer for its documentary “Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story,” which will be showing at Karlovy Vary Film Festival next week. The film had its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival earlier in June and Nate Pommer, who directed alongside Eric Weinrib, was awarded a special jury mention. The jury said the film was being recognized “for the enduring use of art as a weapon against cant and authoritarianism.” The jury added: “We are grateful to the director for translating Gogol Bordello’s rebellious joy and rage at remaining human and vibrant in the face of everything time has thrown in its path.”

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Dan Akyroyd admitted in a recent interview with The Daily Beast that he probably would not put on Blackface for a movie role today like he did 40 years ago in the blockbuster comedy “Trading Places.” Akyroyd starred in the John Landis-directed film as a rich investment broker who switches lives with a broke con artist, played by Eddie Murphy. Akyroyd’s character appears in Blackface and sports dreadlocks and a Caribbean accent during one scene set on New Year’s Eve. “I was in Blackface in that film, and I probably couldn’t get away with it now,” Aykroyd said. “Eddie and I were improvising there. Eddie is a Black man and his entourage were all Black people, and I don’t think they batted an eye. There was no objection then; nobody said anything. It was just a good comic beat that was truthful to the story.”

Global superstar Madonna has been forced to postpone her 40th anniversary tour after she was rushed to hospital and ended up in intensive care as she battled a serious bacterial infection.The 64 year old was scheduled to start her tour in Vancouver, Canada, next month and complete the tour in January 2024, however, due to her recent health problems she has postponed her 84-date tour.The US pop superstar developed a “serious bacterial infection” on Saturday but is expected to make a “full recovery”, her management said.
