BBC viewers were left heartbroken by a documentary on Caroline Aherne's death. Caroline died in July 2016 at the age of 52 from lung cancer.

She was best known for playing the iconic chat show host Mrs Merton, as well as the role of Denise in The Royle Family, which she co-wrote with Craig Cash.

Last night, BBC Two aired an emotional documentary on Caroline's life and the talents she shared with her world through comedy and acting, with Caroline being recognised for being such a trailblazer in her field.

Sharing their thoughts, one viewer wrote: "Feel a sense of sadness every time i think of caroline aherne, very talented lady x," whilst a second added: "Watching the Caroline Aherne documentary on bbc2, what a talent, taken too early." A third penned: "The Caroline Aherne documentary, still very sad all these years later @BBCTwo," with a fourth adding: "That Caroline Aherne documentary was moving, what a GENIUS she was." Meanwhile, Craig Cash was emotional as he reflected on the moment Caroline called him to say goodbye after being told she only had two months to live.
