One of the most terrifying horror films ever made, The Shining, is set to air on BBC Two this weekend. The film, directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Jack Nicholson in a career-defining role, is an adaptation of Stephen King's 1977 novel of the same name.

The plot revolves around Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), a writer who takes up a job as the caretaker of the remote Overlook Hotel in the Rocky Mountains during the off-season.

Along with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd), they find themselves stranded and isolated due to a snowstorm.

As the hotel's ghosts begin to emerge, Jack's sanity starts to crumble while Danny uncovers more about his telepathic abilities.
