BBC star dramatically quits after 21 years as viewers say 'won't be the same'

BBC favourite Jeff Brown has announced he's stepping down from his role in Look North after an eventful two decades, which had viewers saying 'nights won't be the same' without him.The friendly former sports presenter, a familiar and much-loved face since 2003, has recently revealed that he'll bid Look North farewell.

He delivered news bulletins and covered sports updates. Despite being acknowledged with a Royal Television Society award nomination following his 2022 win, Jeff dropped a surprise announcement.

Taking to X on Thursday lunchtime, he made a touching reveal: "News just in...after nearly 21yrs with BBC Look North @BBCLN I'm moving on.

Projects in the pipeline with BBC and others, but (as you can see) it's been fun, and a huge, wonderful part of my life.Thanks for watching." An official BBC statement confirmed Jeff's departure, where he added: "Presenting BBC Look North - filling the seat once occupied by the great Mike Neville - has been the undoubted highlight of my career, something I could never have imagined when I set out as a journalist." So, while viewers may miss seeing him on regular evenings, they're hoping he will deliver brand new projects for the BBC and beyond.
