BBC Radio 1’s Adele Roberts reveals bowel cancer was ‘growing inside her for 10 years’

Adele Roberts has revealed her bowel cancer had been growing for 10 years before she was diagnosed in September last year. The BBC Radio 1 DJ, 42, believes that switching her lifestyle up and eating healthier has also helped her to battle the disease and cope with chemotherapy.

She opened up on her Instagram story, telling her followers: ‘I was told it took about 10 years for my bowel cancer to grow.‘I didn’t start getting healthier until around 2016 (when I did a documentary for Radio 1).

Before that I had a poor diet and was clinically obese.’Adele added: ‘So main message is take of yourselves and try and have balance in your life.‘I truly believe my new lifestyle choices have helped me recover quickly from surgery and deal with the chemotherapy.’Adele had revealed she had bowel cancer last October, a month after getting her diagnosis, and has been undergoing treatment, with her fourth and most recent round of chemotherapy starting on February 4.She previously shared her weight loss journey with her followers after committing to a healthier diet and exercise regime after reaching 12 and a half stone in 2017, revealing on YouTube that she went from ‘eating cake every day’ to cutting out sugar entirely.

The I’m A Celebrity star told Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard on Good Morning Britain after her diagnosis: ‘It was a shock. I didn’t realise I could get cancer which I know sounds silly because I know now it can happen to anyone at any age.
