A BBC commentator has offered an apology to viewers from Milngavie after being tripped up over the pronunciation of the East Dunbartonshire town at the Olympics.The mixed team triathlon was reaching a thrilling climax when revered broadcaster Matt Chilton confessed he has been saying Milngavie all wrong when talking about Beth Potter's former running club.
And he offered an apology to viewers watching in Scotland after learning his mistake. Potter's dogged streak was there for all to see as she fought back and helped Team GB land a second bronze after her first in the individual women's race last weekend.
Speaking on the BBC, the amiable Chilton admitted he had been caught out by the spelling, joked, "At a young age, she was a competitive swimmer with Bearsden and Milngavie, she ran for Victoria Park in Glasgow.
The club where her father still competes. I think I said Milngavie incorrectly in the individuals. Apologies to some of my Scottish friends.
