Fans of BBC Antiques Roadshow were left giggling during the latest episode when a guest presented an unusual item called a "Muff Chain" for evaluation to expert Joanna Hardy. The popular programme was broadcasted on Sunday night on March 17, and featured host Fiona Bruce and her group of experts exploring Londonderry on St Patrick's Day to see what gems could be uncovered.A woman appeared on the show with an extraordinary chain that has been part of her family since the 1950s and belonged to her aunt.
When expert Joanna Hardy enquired about the history of the chain, the lady confessed she wasn't sure.Joanna shared: "It's nearly 200 years old!
It's a belcher link chain or we call it a muff chain." She said that a muff chain is typically connected to a muff, and pointed out the lovely decorative work according to the Mirror. The expert stated that the chain's lightness was due to a gold shortage when it was constructed.
She praised the fact that the chain was still uncut, as it would have likely been divided to make other jewellery items.Nevertheless, the word "muff" sparked much hilarity among viewers, who shared their chuckles on X, a social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
