Die Roten were made to work for it by the struggling home side, and weren't helped by Alphonso Davies' red card, the young Canadian booked twice and leaving his side to play out the final 15 minutes of the game.
But the Bavarians were able to hang on for a 1-0 win, with captain Manuel Neuer's excellent late save denying Josh Sargeant an unlikely leveller.
