Bargain Hunt's Thomas Forrester has spilled the beans that not everyone was enamoured with the enduring BBC daytime antiques programme.The show is set to mark its 25th birthday next week with a special episode airing on Thursday 13 March, and Thomas took a trip down memory lane, recalling how TV legend Terry Wogan didn't hold back his thoughts on the series when it first hit screens.
In a documentary about Bargain Hunt, Thomas, now 50, reminisced about his early days on the show as a "very young boy". He recalled an episode where he and fellow antiques aficionado Philip Serrell, now 70, splashed out over £300 on two items they believed would fetch a pretty penny at auction.
Unfortunately, their gamble didn't pay off, resulting in a significant loss when the items went under the hammer. Thomas said: "I was a very young boy when I joined as an expert.
I'd say my most memorable object was when Philip and I were at Shepton Mallet in the early 2000s. It was a prime-time show back then and on in the evening.
