Monday, 11 January, is the day people are most likely to search for a 0% balance transfer credit card, in an effort to shift their festive debt somewhere it will cost them less.
Research from comparison site money.co.uk shows a 40% surge in credit card balance transfer enquiries on the second Monday of every January.
But this year they will find fewer options than they have for years - and the cards that are left are offering shorter 0% periods too.
Research from Defaqto found just 61 balance transfer credit cards available, down from 81 a year ago. The longest 0% balance transfer deal without a fee that it found on the market was 18 months, compared with 20 months last year.
