Baby given life-saving transplant enjoys 'gift of life' on return home for Christmas

A baby who spent months in hospital after a life-saving liver transplant is finally home for Christmas. Little Isabella Swain had a transplant just after her first birthday in March which meant her mum Gemma had to stay locked down with her for months in hospital.

The 19-month-old was born with biliary atresia - a liver disease that turned her yellow. But it was weeks before she got a diagnosis after a health visitor finally referred her for tests.

An operation held the condition at bay for most of last year, but in January medics at King's College Hospital in London decided she needed a transplant.
