An Irvine petrol station has launched a bid to sell alcohol. Ravenspark Service Station has applied to North Ayrshire Council for a provisional premises licence.

The Kilwinning Road facility wants an off-sales convenience store on the same site as the petrol station. The alcohol hours requested by the applicant are 10am to 10pm seven days a week – the maximum permitted by the legislation and is within North Ayrshire licensing board (NALB) policy.

The proposed display capacity is 20.6 square metres. The venue has been operating for many months as a convenience store after they replaced an on-site shop which was demolished.

The proposal is that, in addition to selling groceries, the premises should have an off-sales facility. North Ayrshire Council’s licensing board will rule on the proposal on Monday. Read next: Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines – sign up to our free daily newsletter
