Ayrshire-born woman receives royal seal of approval as Prince William presents CBE

A Kilmarnock-born woman has been invested as a Commander of the British Empire by Prince William.Kirsty Bushell was honoured at Buckingham Palace for her tireless efforts on behalf of the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), an armed forces charity.She has been national vice-chair of the organisation for a decade and volunteered for more than 30 years.The former RAF wing commander was also instrumental in the creation of the Military Wives Choirs Foundation which boasts around 2,000 members.

Kirsty was made a CBE in the 2022 New Year Honours' List in recognition of her time spearheading the strategic direction of the charity, alongside her long period of selfless service.Her citation included: “Kirsty has proved inspirational in the role of national vice-chair of SSAFA by playing a pivotal role in transforming the charity, being instrumental in the creation of the Military Wives Choirs Foundation and in doggedly furthering the cause of women and families within the armed forces community.
