Cult figure David Bangala admits he feels like he's living in a dream after helping Ayr go top of the Championship.United's newest signing stepped off the bench at Cove yesterday, just 48 hours after finally ending his summer of visa hell. And the midfielder - whose name was sung from the first whistle by United's travelling support at Balmoral Stadium - confessed he couldn't believe his hereos' welcome.

Bangala told the Ayrshire Post: "It was an incredible afternoon and I could hear the fans chanting my name from the very start. "For me this is so nice and an amazing welcome to have.

It makes me so happy to receive that kind of support."To finally be here and fighting on the pitch is like a dream come true."And to come in for my first game and have the team play so well was great.

We deserved to win the game and the boys were fantastic."United's dominant performance afforded boss Lee Bullen the chance to introduce Bangala with four minutes remaining as Ayr inflicted Cove's first home league defeat in 15 months. But the former FK Pohronie star has warned his new teammates to expect a target on their backs now they're setting the early pace.He said: "We are top of the table and it's a great start but we know the Championship will be such a difficult league and our battle starts now."It is a long season, but we will take things step by step and I'm just delighted to be here and part of it."Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines –sign up to our free daily newsletter here
