Ayr United fans have celebrated a special milestone in their backing of the club. The AU Player Fund – set up in 2016 to help boost the Somerset transfer kitty – has now raised £200,000.The whopping sum has made a number of deals possible down the years, with Fund chiefs now hoping to grow their reach even further. And they’re hoping more fans are willing to come on board with monthly spare change to help swell the coffers.Membership boss, John Gemmell, said: “Our numbers have been very steady for a while now, but we want to keep growing.“We’d love to reach a position where we could be donating £50,000 each year to the club’s transfer budget.“The difference that could make to the team on the park would be huge.”Treasurer Robert Ritchie added: “Members have total control over what they pay via standing order and we feel the model works really well.“The average contribution from members is £21 per month and we have people spread all over the UK putting into the pot.“This is a fantastic milestone to reach and we want to keep pushing on now.”United board member, Alan Murray, said: “We feel like the Fund is gaining real momentum with new people coming on the committee and the awareness of what the guys are doing is definitely increasing.“The club is hugely grateful for the efforts of the Fund and all those contributing to it.”United commercial boss, Martin Tocker, added: “The key thing we wanted to improve was making those who are contributing feel involved and part of something.“Hopefully they’re seeing the engagement get better all the time and we’re looking at all sorts of events and ways the Fund and its members can play an increasing part.” For more information on the Fund email info@auplayerfund.co.uk
