BEN Dempsey says he's learning from the best after penning a contract extension at Ayr United. The new Somerset skipper has inked a deal through to the summer of 2026 after a great start to the season which has seen the former Charlton youth product earn rave reviews.Dempsey, 24, is into his third year with Ayr and has grown in stature following the arrival of boss Brown, who made the call to hand the midfielder the captain's armband this summer.Brown knows a thing or two about decent midfielders, and the former Celtic and Scotland legend has placed his faith in Dempsey to be the driving force of his new-look United side. It's a decision which looks to have paid dividends, with Dempsey enjoying the best football of his career and the player admits it was a no brainer to increase the length of his stay.He said: "As a midfielder and having Scott Brown to learn from - there's nobody better.
I just take it in every day and this is the best place for me to be. I'm enjoying it and that's the main thing."We've been speaking about the new deal for a while, we actually started talking about it before the end of last season.
But I wanted to focus on coming back fit and get my head down and we got there in the end."Me and the gaffer have got a good relationship - he's always talking to me in training and telling me how he did things and what I can work on.
I just take that in every day and it's a bonus when someone like him says nice things about you."Being captain is a new role for me and I just want to learn from him.
