Ayo Edebiri In Talks to Star In & Write 'Barney' Live Action Movie

Ayo Edebiri is going to be the force behind an upcoming live action film version of Barney. The 29-year-old actress is set to write the screenplay for the project, which is titled Barney.

She is also in talks to star in the film. The movie will be produced by A24 and 59% Productions, the latter of which is founded by actor Daniel Kaluuya.

It will also be in partnership with Mattel films, as Mattel owns the intellectual property to the original Barney children’s show. “In the case here, the Barney film will be what it’s ultimately going to be, and this show, we felt that, we want to remain consistent to the authenticity.

That’s really, really important. If it’s not authentic, we’re not going to do it. We want to remain consistent to the authenticity, the DNA of Barney, but we also want to modernize,” Josh Silverman, CFO of Mattel, told Variety.
