It’s the book crime fiction fans around the world have been waiting more than a decade to read and author Peter May has revealed he very nearly didn’t write it.‘The Black Loch’ - the sequel to his bestselling Lewis Trilogy - comes out later this month but May admitted he had no intention of penning a fourth novel in the series despite pleas from across the globe.Peter, who has sold more than 12 million copies of his books worldwide, said as far as he was concerned he was done with, not only the trilogy, but with writing in general. But the 72-year-old, who finished his acclaimed trilogy - The Blackhouse, The Lewis Man and The Chessmen - back in 2013, admitted he was finally drawn back in by his much-loved detective Fin Macleod.Peter, whose books have been published in 37 languages, said: “The Black Loch was never on my horizon and I never had any intention of writing it - or any other book for that matter.“I was no longer taking contracts from my publisher and as far as I was concerned I was done with writing and was going to live out my retirement cooking in my wood burning garden oven and recording songs in my studio.“People had been on at me for years to write more Fin Macleod but I held off as in my head his story had been nicely put to bed in The Chessmen and that was an end to it.”The dad-of-one, who is married to fellow writer Janice Hally, added: “In 2020 I finally gave in and came up with a sequel which would see Fin’s son Fionnlagh, now 30, working on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard.

When he is charged with murder Fin would could come to Arctic to investigate and try and clear his son’s name.“My research trip for the novel was cancelled due to Covid.
