Austin Butler to Play Patrick Bateman in New 'American Psycho' Film Adaptation by Luca Guadagnino
justjared.comAustin Butler is taking on a major role. The 33-year-old Elvis actor is set to star in Luca Guadagnino‘s new interpretation of the book American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis for Lionsgate, and he’ll be playing the role of Patrick Bateman, via Variety.
The news came after rumors of Jacob Elordi taking the role circulated online. The film, which features a script by The Laundromat‘s Scott Z.
Burns, will not be a remake of the 2000 film, but is rather described as a new interpretation. Keep reading to find out more… The 2000 movie was set in the 1980s, and Christian Bale starred as Patrick Bateman, a Wall Street yuppie and serial killer.
The new take on the book “could have a larger erotic emphasis than the original horror satire,” Variety speculates, given the director’s previous efforts, including Challengers and Call Me By Your Name.
