Russell Grant has opened up on his secret battle with brain cancer and the five-hour operation to remove a tumour.The famous celebrity astrologer and in-house horoscope guru for the likes of spiritual magazines also praised his doctors for managing to save his eyesight.The astrology expert had a tumour growth on his pituitary gland in his brain.

After various tests and scans at the hospital, Russell then went under the knife to have the mass removed.The 71 year old TV personality thanked his "A-team" of medical support staff as he went on to explain that he is now in recovery after the invasive procedure.

Sharing the update with his Twitter followers on Tuesday 28 February, Russell also gushed over his nurses at Alex Hospital and YG Bangor Hospital.

He began: "Before Christmas I had a brain tumour removed by the A-Team Prof Pathmanban, Dr Bhalla, Dr Kearney, the caring nurses & Vicky Walsh of Alex Hospital Manchester & Dr Wilton YG Bangor. "I'm now into recovery on @BrainTumourOrg Day.Thank you all," the former Strictly Come Dancing star added.
