Arsenal crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, piling even more misery onto Mikel Arteta and his beleaguered squad. With eight defeats in 14 Premier League games, the domestic cup competition had provided some welcome respite, but that all ended with Man City thumping them 4-1 at the Emirates.
The Gunners face London rivals Chelsea on Boxing Day, with Arteta's side marooned in the bottom half of the table. Emirates chiefs are reportedly willing to stick with the Spaniard and technical director Edu publicly backed the under-fire manager earlier this month.
However, it is likely he will need reinforcements in the transfer window in order to strengthen in the second half of the campaign.
