Arsenal transfer chief Edu is reportedly close to finalising a deal to sign teenage striker Tiago Tomas from Sporting Lisbon.
Tomas is rated so highly by Sporting that last year they tied him down to a bumper new five-year deal, which reportedly contains a £52million release clause.
But in the current economic climate Arsenal are said to be hopeful of landing him for around £20m. The striker is understood to have impressed Edu and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta during Sporting's win over Benfica earlier this month.
The pair were watching the game to get the lowdown on Benfica, who are Arsenal's opponents in the Europa League round of 32 this Thursday.
