A man branded a 'remorseless coward' by a detective has been jailed for the death of a 22-month old girl who had suffered 'catastrophic' injuries.

Brandon Heath, 22, became tangled in a web of his own lies when he attempted to blame the child's grieving mother after the toddler was found by paramedics struggling to breathe at her home in Northwich on Sunday, August 30 2020.

Heath has now been jailed for 13 years and six months for manslaughter following a trial at Chester Crown Court. READ MORE: Family will have to wait for answers over son's death at mental health unit Heath, of no fixed address, told the court that he called the North West Ambulance Service after finding the toddler, described by her mother as the 'happiest cheekiest little girl you had ever seen', ‘collapsed’ on the floor after getting out of her chair.

Paramedics had attended the scene and found her in the upstairs bedroom, struggling to breathe and with an abnormal swelling on the back of her head.
