Scots will face even more freezing temperatures this week as an Arctic blast brings -10 conditions today. The country was hit by freezing cold weather conditions over the New Year period, while other parts of the UK remained rainy but mild.

However, the Met Office has put several warnings in place for ice and possible snow over certain Scottish areas, with a warning for rain in place too.

The forecaster warned that a freezing chill will continue into Tuesday, January 2, before temperatures start to rise again towards the end of the week, the Mirror reports.Snow and ice warnings will remain in place until 11am today in Scotland, with other areas in England and Ireland facing the same.People have been warned to expect: "Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths."Maps from WXCharts show temperatures hitting -10C and up to 13 centimetres of snow for Scotland, while Met Office forecaster Alex Burkill said that the mercury could fall several degrees below -8C.He said: "At the moment the jet stream is still running across the UK but as we head into Bank Holiday Monday it’s going to clear away towards the southeast and that will allow for some colder air to push in from the north and will also lead to a ridge of high pressure building which is why the weather is going to turn a little bit calmer, albeit for a just a short period of time.""Clear skies as we go through the night.
