Apple Cider Vinegar is a brand new limited series that tells the story of Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness influencer who claimed to have beaten terminal brain cancer through healthy living.The Australian scammer also claimed to have given sizable donations to several cancer charities, most of which actually went in her own pocket.
Gibson was exposed and finally admitted to her lies in 2015, after scamming thousands into downloading her wellness app and buying her book.But who is Belle Gibson, and should her story serve as a warning against blindly listening to health advice from wellness influencers?Annabelle Natalie Gibson was born on October 8 1991.
She is a convicted scammer and fake health guru who racked up over 200,000 Instagram followers, which was especially impressive given the app was still in its early days at the time of her popularity in 2013-2015.Her online empire involved pushing alternative therapies and wellness methods which had supposedly cured her terminal brain cancer.
She launched an app containing her health advice which became a bestseller, before releasing a book entitled The Whole Pantry, in which she claimed her diet had cured her illness.She was named "the most inspiring woman you've met this year" by Elle Australia, while in 2014, Cosmopolitan gave her a "Fun, Fearless Female" award.
