Sir Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of the upcoming Peacock series Those About To Die based on the book that inspired the 2000 movie Gladiator.The 84-year-old Welsh actor will portray Emperor Vespasian in the epic period drama by German director Roland Emmerich, 67, according to an article on Wednesday by Deadline.The series was inspired Daniel P.
Mannix's 1958 book Those About To Die that also was the inspiration for the Gladiator film starring Russell Crowe, 58, as Maximus.

An official synopsis described the ageing Vespasian as 'despised by the Patricians jockeying for position in the Empire and looking to supplant his heirs to the throne the first chance they get.'Emmerich in addition to directing also will executive produce the series along with writer Robert Rodat.
