Anne Heche passed away last week after sustaining major injuries in a car crash. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner has now released the official cause of death and the coroner also ruled the death an accident. Click inside to read more about the cause of death… Anne died from inhalation of smoke and thermal injuries, according to the coroner’s office (via People).
A “significant condition” from the car crash was also noted. Anne suffered a “sternal fracture due to blunt trauma.” For those who don’t know, the sternum is the flat bone in the center of your chest that connects the ribs and collarbone.
The National Library of Medicine believes that 60-90% of all sternal fractures are cause by crashes. Anne‘s Mini Cooper crashed into a Los Angeles home on August 5 and the car and the house both caught on fire.
She was declared legally dead on August 12, but her heart continued to beat for another couple days to make sure that her organs could be donated.
