Lanarkshire’s Scottish SPCA animal rescue centre is appealing for donations of hay after seeing an influx of rabbits to its care.Staff are currently caring for 49 rabbits – as several of the new arrivals were pregnant, with their babies subsequently adding to the demand for food – as well as nine guinea pigs.Centre manager Gillian Boyle said: “We’re going through our hay supplies much faster than usual; it can be a struggle to keep up with so many hungry mouths to feed.“We have so many small mammals at the moment that we’ve even had to convert some of our kennel space into impromptu bunny homes as our rabbitry is full.” The centre is currently closed to the public during the ongoing lockdown restrictions, but donations can be made by
