Andrea McLean has revealed that trying to perfect led to her breakdown. The former Loose Women presenter, 51, suffered a nervous breakdown in 2019, and she thinks this was caused by her quest to be like a "Stepford Wife" and the perfect mum.
She said: "I tried to be the perfect daughter, the perfect wife, the perfect mother, the perfect employee, the perfect friend - and now I look back and I feel really sorry for me back then." Andrea believes that too much pressure is placed on women to be "good girls", which she feels harmed her own mental health.
She added: "As women, we're raised to be really good girls: to say yes and smile and be lovely and make everyone else feel comfortable.
