MacDowell’s gray corkscrew curls, which bounced as she took her turn on the catwalk. Occasionally scrunching her hair in her hands, MacDowell and her voluminous curls were reminiscent of her hairstyle from the early ’90s, when she played Carrie in Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Just this time, nearly 30 years later, they were a natural shade of gray.Gray is undoubtedly the hair color du jour, as women in the public eye begin to embrace the shade instead of spending hours in their colorist’s chairs in a bid to disguise its onset.
MacDowell was one of the first famous women to take the plunge, after she transitioned from brunette over lockdown. Proclaiming that she had always wanted to have “salt and pepper” hair, about the mixed emotions she felt about embracing her natural color.“I was so cautious because I didn’t want anybody to be upset and I was trying to figure out how I could wear wigs to please people,” she said at the time. “But then once I did it, it was just so clear to me that my instincts were right because I’ve never felt more powerful.
