A giant asteroid, more than a kilometre wide, will be soaring past the Earth tonight. The asteroid is set to pass the planet from a distance of around 1 million miles and scientists say it will be its closest approach for the next 200 years.

But, experts say the asteroid poses no threat to Earth and at its closest will pass more than five times the moon’s distance from the planet.
