Ambitious plans lodged for new chicken factory and homes in Perthshire town
dailyrecord.co.ukAmbitious plans have been lodged which could see the poultry processing plant in Coupar Angus razed and replaced with a new one.Perth and Kinross Council has received an in principle application from Amber (REI) Holdings Ltd to create a mixed-use development including a new facility and demolition of the existing one operated by 2 Sisters Food Group in George Street.If approved, the application states knocking down the current factory would pave the way for the land to be used for residential, commercial and industrial purposes – as well as parking areas, vehicular access, landscaping and the associated work needed to bring the project to fruition.The site extends to approximately 10 hectares in total and is split into two sections – with the existing poultry plant to the north and a field in the southern half.A design statement, compiled by Optimised Environments Ltd (OPEN) on behalf of the applicant, goes on to explain: “The vision is for a development which offers a sensitive fit with the surrounding landscape and townscape.“This can be achieved by working with the existing landscape, mirroring the local development pattern and form, and providing landscape containment.“In addition to the poultry factory and commercial uses, the proposed development will offer a variety of housing choices in type and tenure which will reflect local need for first-time buyers in addition to families, and gives the best opportunity for mixed community sustainable living.“Flexible housing typologies and a variety of employment opportunities within the site, with good walking, cycling and public transport links to town centre facilities and easy access to the countryside, will make this an attractive place to live and work.”The document
