Amazon is to create more than 10,000 jobs in the UK with a new fulfilment centre in Gateshead later this year. The online giant - which has hit record sales in the past year - said the new warehouse will create 1,300 permanent jobs, with just under 9,000 more roles created across the UK over the next 12 months.
The company said it will launch a £10million programme to help employees gain new skills as part of the investment, with 75,000 more roles created in Canada and the USA, too.
It comes after Amazon's net income more than tripled to $8.1 billion in the first three months of 2021, exceeding last year's record after large parts of the world went into lockdowns.
