Altrincham care home calls for help marking Gladys' 100 years with 100 birthday cards

Turning 100 years old is a rare milestone that very few of us are lucky enough to achieve and to celebrate one resident reaching this fine old age, a care home in Greater Manchester is asking the public to help them mark the occasion, with 100 birthday cards for 100 years.

99-year-old Gladys is set to become a centenarian on January 22 and Oldfield Bank care home in Altrincham wants to surprise the long-lived lady with an avalanche of cards and letters, alongside the usual birthday card from King Charles himself.

Care home staff advise well-wishers that she is a lover of nature, so cards with animals or flowers would be a nice touch. On the day that Gladys was born in 1924, the UK was in political turmoil following the collapse of Stanley Baldwin's Conservative government and had just gained its first Labour Prime Minister, Ramsey MacDonald.
