Ally McCoist has taken aim at Chris Sutton for not including Callum McGregor in his shortlist for player of the year. The former Rangers player and manager had a tongue-and-cheek pop at the ex-Celtic striker and Record Sport columnist saying the current Parkhead captain has been running the midfield for "24 months".

The pair discussed their shortlists for the player of the year on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra show with McCoist opting for Kyogo Furuhashi, Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland, Motherwell forward Kevin Van Veen and McGregor.McCoist also believes Van Veen, on current form, could end up winning the award after scoring 20 goals in 33 appearances for the Fir Park club.

Kyogo currently has 23 goals in 31 appearances, while Shankland is on 21 goals after 32 appearances. McCoist said: "It's bordering on obscene that he doesn't have Callum McGregor in his shortlist, by the way.

He has effectively run that midfield, I like Hatate good player, Callum McGregor has run that midfield for about 24 months and you've not got him in the shortlist for player of the year."That is an absolutely shocking decision.
