Allotment holders at 1,500 plots across Trafford are being consulted over ‘one hell of an increase’ in annual rent. Trafford council, which manages the borough’s 35 allotment sites, has announced ‘changes’ to annual fees with the consultation running until January 14.
The authority is proposing to raise the rental charge from £104 to £138.80 for a full plot and from £52 to £69.40 for a half plot.
The town hall says it will continue to provide a 50pc discount for people over the age of 60. We run self-manages sites and we’ve got a committee meeting this month and it’s bound to come up.” He said the letter informing him of the proposed increase said there had not been a rise since 2014 in rents.
