Thankful Allan McGregor admits he urged Jack Butland to seize every second of his Rangers career after the legendary keeper said goodbye on an emotional Ibrox night.
The 41-year-old called time on his storied Ibrox playing career at the end of last season and was rewarded with a sold out testimonial against Newcastle United who brought 6,000 supporters to Glasgow on Tuesday night.
Eddie Howe's men came out on top but Sam Lammers netted his first Rangers goal in the 2-1 defeat. But, for many, the night was all about one man and McGregor appeared moved by the warmth given by his Ibrox public.
And the former Scotland star lifted the lid on the emotional moment he was subbed for successor Butland and the words he whispered to his successor amid a crescendo of cheers.
