VisitScotland is set to close all of its tourist information centres over the next two years. The plans were made after significant changes to the way people plan their trips were recognised by the organisation.VisitScotland said tourists now prefer to use online resources and travel specialists to research and book all aspects of their trips before travelling.

This includes sorting their accommodation and booking activities before they arrive. This has resulted in a lesser demand for the centres and for the business to grow and thrive, VisitScotland said they will now target the channels that they know people use in order to continue influencing tourism in Scotland.Lord Thurso, VisitScotland’s chair, said: “The tourism landscape has changed significantly in recent years.

The demand for iCentres has reduced while the demand for online information and booking has continued to grow.Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. You'll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland. No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team. All you have to do is click here if you're on mobile, select 'Join Community' and you're in!If you're on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click 'Join Community'.We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
