All patients leaving Scottish hospitals can request a wheelchair following rule change

Jackie Baillie tabled a member's bill at Holyrood in 2019 in an effort to ensure the NHS supplied the mobility aids if requested.Under previous guidance, hospitals only provided wheelchairs to patients who would require one for six months or more.This meant patients who only required a wheelchair on a short term basis had to find the money to buy one themselves or rely on charities such as the British Red Cross.Following discussions between ministers, health bosses and Labour this rule will now be changed without the need for legislation.Baillie told the Record: "This change will see the lives of thousands of Scots improved.
