Morelos has come under fire for his form and fitness this season and sparked the fury of fans with a dismal display against St Mirren, a game that saw Gers drop points again and fall nine points behind rivals Celtic.
It was the latest setback in what has been a rough season so far for the 26-year-old, who was bombed out of the squad to face PSV and has since lost his spot as an automatic starter to Antonio Colak.
He was unlikely to have been called up for Colombia had they made it to Qatar but they failed to qualify anyway, and the Rangers stars not going to the World Cup are taking the opportunity for a short mid-season break.
