Alan Menken, Kenny Ortega & Original ‘Newsies’ Cast Members Reunite For Medley Remix Video To Get Out The Vote
deadline.comEXCLUSIVE: Newsies fans have reason for a little Extra! bounce in their step today: The director, composer, lyricist and cast members of the Broadway musical and 1992 movie adaptation have reunited for a non-partisan get out the vote video that features new performances of updated songs from the show.
The project is for Broadway Votes, the theater industry’s largest organized get out the vote effort, and features a remix video of Newsies’ “Carrying the Banner” and “Seize the Day” numbers.
The project reunites the film’s director Kenny Ortega with composer Alan Menken and lyricist Jack Feldman. It’s the first time they’ve re-teamed since the film.
The songs are reframed for the 2024 election and newly re-recorded. The video – watch it above – was filmed at the Connelly Theater in Manhattan’s East Village.
