Akon has proved to be a man with a plan after unveiling the next steps for construction of his new city in Senegal, which has been compared to Black Panther’s fictional nation of Wakanda. The Locked Up singer secured $6bn (£4.4bn) funding for the new area, dubbed Akon City, in June and has now revealed what to expect from the ambitious project.
During a press conference on Monday, Akon explained that he wanted the city – which will be situated near Dakar – to be a ‘home back home’ for African-Americans and other black communities around the world. ‘The system back home treats them unfairly in so many different ways that you can never imagine.
