Airdrie will maintain 'fearless' football in Championship, says Calum Gallagher

Airdrie may be making the step up to the Championship this season, but star striker Calum Gallagher insists they will aim to maintain their fearless style of football.Club player of the year Gallagher was the PFA League One player of the year last season and netted 23 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, as the Diamonds won promotion to the second tier through the play-offs.The Diamonds were a free-scoring side and netted 91 goals during the last campaign, ending the season as the highest scoring side in the division by some distance from second-place Falkirk and champions Dunfermline.It will be a tougher task for the 28-year-old to hit those numbers again this season, but he believes the Diamonds won’t change their pressing, free-flowing football now that they have moved up a division.‘Gal’ , who is now entering his fifth season with the Diamonds, said: “The core of the squad in the changing room last season were fearless and I think it will be the same again this season.“We back ourselves to perform in games, play our style and then the result will either go for you or it won’t.“In terms of implementing our style, it’s not something we carry any fear about so it is just about getting that ball rolling for the new season and picking up momentum as soon as we can.“Scoring goals at a higher level is the target for me and to be successful.“But it is about more than that.“Previous to last season, I was probably guilty of only scoring goals, whereas in the season there my overall performances were much improved.“So my main aim is to continue that in the Championship.“I want to be involved in the play, continue to perform and help the team, as well as grabbing the goals.“I will look to do that as best I can.”Galla
