Airdrie ace Ben Wilson hopes landing their first point on the board in over three months can be the catalyst for him and the Diamonds to kick on in their relegation dogfight.The striker was at the double on Saturday in a 2-2 draw at home to Morton, which took rock bottom Airdrie to within nine point of nearest rivals Dunfermline at the foot of the Championship.He scored from the penalty spot to make it 1-1 after 35 minutes and grabbed a second leveller 11 minutes from time to end a run of seven straight league defeats.It was also Wilson’s first league goals for the club and ended an 18-game barren spell for him in front of goal.Wilson said: “It was very nice to score but you can never get too high or too low.
I was delighted to break a run of games with no goals, and hopefully I can build on that now and get some more.“I was always going to step up and take the penalty for my first equaliser.
I’m the penalty taker at the club and I’ll always take that responsibility. When I was taking it, the goal drought wasn’t playing on my mind at all.
I was backing myself to score.“It’s great to get off the mark in the league with two goals. It’s been a wee bit tough in recent weeks, but I’ve found my feet now.
